Clyde Richburg of North Andover, MA cut puzzles in the 1930s and rented many as Novelty Puzzles. Here, he glued the picture on plywood so as to leave several inches of wood extending below. He then painted the bare plywood with "JANUARY SUNSET", and also painted a separate piece of wood with "NOVELTY WR PUZZLE" The lettering in both hand painted sections was color line cut with the spacing between letters in "NOVELTY WR PUZZLE" discarded (called "dropouts"). The rest of the puzzle (both sections) was cut normally. The result is certainly a very different puzzle which he marketed as his Novelty brand.
