Broadcasting the Boat Race

Catalog Code:
2- 2925
Description:

Made 1930's by Happy Hour Jig Saw Puzzles, address unknown.  Plywood, interlocking, 7 figure pieces including owner, (Mary J.) Stearns (Worcester, MA). My speculation is that the scene is based on the Yale-Harvard annual crew race on the Thames River dividing London and Groton, Connecticut, which is a reenactment of the famed Oxford-Cambridge race on the Thames River in England. Artist: Sydney H. Riesenberg; picture appeared on cover of Boy's Life June 1932 issue which included stories about the Olympics and "A Crew Story".  1932 Olympic rowing events were held at: Marine Stadium in Long Beach, California, so I don't think scene depicts those events.
