Parker Brothers made several of these humorous (silly?) scenes by Palmer Cox into jigsaw puzzles and McLoughlin made them into block puzzles back in the 1890's.  The puzzle pictured here is made of rudimentary plywood and simply cut with some interlocking features.  A children's puzzle with appeal to adults?  Donated to the American Antiquarian Society.
