Description: 

One of the earliest American map puzzles, made by Kelly & Levin of Boston, MA c.1849. Hand colored; cut along boundaries of the states and territories; geographical portrayal of upper part of America is certainly "primitive". Puzzle comes in its original wood box with colorful hand painted lid and duplicate folding map.  Puzzle has been given to Joe Seymour of Rohnert Park, CA "on permanent loan" as he focuses on the very early puzzles and is in a better position to study, store and appreciate such a unique puzzle.
