In Great Distress

Catalog Code:
1- 1527
Description:

Puzzle closely resembles an early Pastime with similar figural pieces and color line cutting.  Mrs. Bradford may have reboxed Pastime puzzle as her own.  Marriages were usually controlled by parents in the 19th and early 20th century and elopements were common (my aunt eloped and kept her marriage secret for many months after WW I).  In scene depicted, the parents of the young woman appear to have arrived too late.  The mother (on horseback) will have to reconcile everyone.  Artist: unknown.
