Saying Good-bye

Catalog Code:
1- 1432
Description:

Another poignant home front scene of "Daddy" going off to WW I.  My father had met my mother, a high school senior in Providence, RI, before leaving Brown U. in 1917 and before his graduation ceremony (he received his diploma) to enlist in the Army as a private, (not an officer as depicted here).  But from family "lore" they had already fallen in love . However, they could not marry until my mother had attended and graduated from Pembroke College in Providence, RI.  Four (4) years later, my father had returned from war and started a career.  The greatest obstacle:now was my mother's oldest sister who was suppose to marry first (which never happened!)  Times were very different in those days.  One day, my mother expressed to me her bitterness over being denied marriage to my father for so long.
Artist is probably Angus McDonald but not the one  listed on Wikipedia who was born in 1961.
