Stepping Out

An extraordinary puzzle with wonderful, unusual graphics by Hermann Kosel (1951) for a travel poster for Austria (cut from bottom when Par made the puzzle).  Note drop out in water section so as to create 6 marching band figures; dropout in green area to create monogram "RH"; higher than normal number of Par-type figure pieces (37) including 2 Par sea horses; and gold stenciled sea horses in upper left. One of only 2 puzzles with traditional edges in Hodgkins' collection of 32 puzzles. Interestingly, scene is very similar to, and puzzle is cut much like, Fig. 2-9 on p. 34 of Anne Williams’ book, Jigsaw Puzzles: An Illustrated History and Price Guide.
