The Dance

Catalog Code:
4- 401
Description:

This puzzle was cut by Charles Russell, Auburn, MA from a copy of a painting by Jean-Baptiste Pater displayed in the Worcester Art Museum. It was offered for sale in the Museum Gift Shop but did not sell and was brought home and assembled by the then Director, Dick Teitz and his wife, Elaine. When the Director’s wife heard about our interest in jigsaw puzzles, she insisted upon giving it to us. In thanks, we then made a donation to the Museum. Subsequently, in talking with Mr. Russell about the puzzle, we learned that a large section had been lost in the middle and he had cut a replacement section and pieces from a second copy of the print given to him by the Museum. Even then, there was considerable picture damage which required retouching. A dull scene to work, this puzzle has a very interesting provenance!
