A Silhouette puzzle made by Holabird Co, Bryan, OH 1909c. Plywood is same color and texture on both sides. No picture is used but the outline of a recognizable object/person (elephant in this case) is cut out first and then cut into non-interlocking pieces. Result: assembler doesn’t know which side of each piece is up or down, and there is no color design or knobs/holes to suggest where individual pieces go. Puzzles were sold in envelops with warning, “Average Time One Hour or More”. The phrase “Jig Saw Puzzle” on envelopes is in Old English font.
