Sectional Map of U.S./Sherwin-Williams Paints

Two-sided puzzle made c.1887 by Rev. E. J. Clemens from solid wood and cut along color lines of states. Inside cover has ad for Payne's 10 H. arresting portable engine; inside box bottom has ad for shopping at John Wanamaker, Philadelphia, PA. Sherwin-Williams Paints ad on puzzle back is the first of such ads on the backs of Silent Teacher puzzles. Obviously, Rev. Clemens was quite a promoter in his day! Map is dated 1883 by Colton Co, but that is not the puzzle date.
