General Washington at Yorktown

Catalog Code:
P- 1399
Description:

Heroic portrayal of Washington on his horse.  Artist unidentified.  Yorktown was the last and climactic battle of the War with the British surrendering when the French fleet cut off any withdrawal.  Still, give the colonists credit as they kept digging trenches closer and closer to the British putting pressure on them.  What a change from the early days of the war!  Still, Washington was ultimately in charge of the colonial army and would have been blamed if things had gone badly.
